Afrin, Sadiya
The plant Dracaena spicata has been used for the general promotion of health and longevity by Asian tribal. It is used as a traditional medicine for the treatment of various diseases like meals, fever, ulcer, stomachaches etc. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the antimicrobial activity and cytotoxic activity of methanolic extract of Dracaena spicata. The antimicrobial activities of methanolic solvent extract of plant weretested against the Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacterial strains and fungi by observing the zone of inhibition. The antimicrobial test was performed by Disc diffusion method. The crude methanolic extract of Dracaena spicataplant showed poor antimicrobial activities against Gram-negative bacteria and fungi at concentrations of 400 μg/disc. However, no activity was found against Salmonela paratyphy and Bacillus subtilis. The cytotoxic activity of the plant was done by using Artemia saline Leach. The LC50 was observed approximately as 36.829μg / mL with a R2 value of 0.9735. Cytotoxicity of methanolic extract of Dracaena spicata was not good, LC50 value less than 5 μg / mL indicates excellent cytotoxic effect. So, further studies are needed to evaluatethe cytotoxicity of isolated pure compounds. In conclusion, furtherinvestigations are needed to identify the active constituents and the exact mechanism(s) of action responsible for the reported antimicrobial and cytotoxic properties of Dracaena spicata

Rahman, Md. Abdur
The objective of this research is to study the phytochemical properties of methanolic
extracts of Enhydra fluctuans, a plant belonging to the Asteraceae family. The
phytochemical evaluation was carried out by performing several test TLCs, preparative
TLC, & IR test. Enhydra fluctuans,a tropical herb, commonly known as helencha or
harkuch, belonging to family Asteraceae, is gaining lot of importance for its therapeutic
potentials. This is an edible semi-aquatic herbaceous vegetable plant with serrate leaves,
grows in abundant quantiy in Bangladesh. The leaves are slightly bitter, cure
inflammation, skin diseases, laxative, bronchitis, nervous affection, leucoderma,
biliousness and good in small pox. The plant possesses nutritional value including- _-
carotene, saponins, cholesterol, glucoside, enhydrin and so on. It is reported that plant
possesses Antioxidant, Hepatoprotective, CNS Depressant, Analgesic and Antidiarrheal
activity.Thin-layer chromatography (TLC) is a mature and very established technique,
frequently used in many fields of applications ranging from natural product analysis to
chemical or pharmaceutical applications. Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy
(FTIR) identifies chemical bonds in a molecule by producing an infrared absorption
spectrum. The spectra produce a profile of the sample, a distinctive molecular fingerprint
that can be used to screen and scan samples for many different components. FTIR is an
effective analytical instrument for detecting functional groups and characterizing
covalent bonding information. TLC & IR test performed to investigate bioactive natural
compounds from E. fluctuansand to investigate the crystals obtained from the crude
extract of the plant .Some bands were observed through these tests.

This research work was conducted to describe the coating efficiency on photolytic degradation of Etnol® (Atenolol). The objective of this study was to determine the reproducibility of the effect of Atonolol in various lighting conditions (control, sunlight, normal room light, 25watt & 40watt bulb). UV spectrophotometer was used for measuring the absorbance. Besides, physical tests were performed for evaluation of color change, weight variation, thickness and hardness of the Etnol® tablets from same batch. Physical tests were performed according to the specification of USP and the standard deviation of weight variation; hardness and thickness were ±0.0155 mm, ±0.36253 kg & ±0.0025gm respectively. But it was also observed that the concentration of Atenolol was decreased gradually in various light condition (25watt & 40watt electrical bulb, sunlight, normal light) and at 25watt, 40watt, direct sunlight and normal room light exposure the degradation were observed 11.86%, 15.45%, 23.06% & 10.23% respectively. So, it can be said that packaging alone was not sufficient to protect the drug from light.

The crude methanolic extracts derived from the Tridax procumbens leaves was screened in vitro for possible phytochemical and biological. Crude plant powders were extracted sequentially with methanol and the dried extracts obtained demonstrated the presence of significant pharmacological activity on diabetes, microorganisms responsible for disease. The objective of this study is to characterize the functional compounds that were extracted and separated from leaves of Tridax procumbens and were carried out using different methods using Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC), Vacuum Liquid Chromatography (VLC), Column Chromatography. Under phytochemical analysis, antioxidant test & Chemical screening was done. The antioxidant property found in crude methanolic extracts derived from the Tridax procumbens leaves was very good.
A new flavonoid (procumbenetin), isolated from the aerial parts of Tridax procumbens, has been characterised as 3,6-dimethoxy-5,7,2',3',4'-pentahydroxyflavone 7-O-β-D-gluco- pyranoside (1) on the basis of spectroscopic techniques and by chemical means. Tridax procumbens; Flavonoids Plant. Uses in traditional medicine. Commonly used in Indian traditional medicine as anticoagulant, hair tonic, antifungal and insect repellent, in bronchial catarrh, diarrhoea, dysentery, and wound healing. Previously isolated constituents. Alkyl esters, sterols, pentacyclic triterpenes, fatty acids and polysaccharides. New isolated constituent. 3,6-Dimethoxy-5,7,2',3',4'-pentahydroxyflavone 7-O-β- D-glucopyranoside (1), named procumbetin Žyield: 0.016% on dried basis.[citation needed] its is also the best anti coagulant and used to treat the inflamation
