dc.description.abstract Thyroid Cancer is one of the major health problems in Bangladesh. Thyroid gland is an important endocrine organ which starts functioning in early fetal life and maintains the level of metabolism in the tissues that is optimal for their normal function and intimately related with physical and mental growth. Thyroid cancer may occur in the form of abnormality in size, shape, structure and function of the gland. The pattern of thyroid disease may vary in different parts of the world and also in different regions of the same country. The data were collected from 500 patients from Nuclear Medicine Departments of BSMMU and Dhaka Medical. The present study was carried out on thyroid patients to see the prevalence of thyroid cancer in male and women. Out of 500 thyroid patients 72% were female and 28% were male. Most of the patients having thyroid cancer were in age between 20-40 years. More than 65% of people lies in between the above mentioned age range. More than 90% patients had elevated TSH level. Around 58% patients having TSH level in between 60-100 mU/L. After 3 months of treatment with Radio Iodine TSH level drastically fall down to 0.01-4.5 mU/L. Thyroid disorder is a common cause for low level of triglyceride level in patients. The present study shows that 74% patients have low level of triglyceride (less than 10mg/dL). The incidence rates of thyroid cancer in both women and men have been increasing in recent years. It is also alarming that most of the people of reproductive age in Bangladesh are suffering from thyroid disorder. en_US
